Schaffter’s exhumed body was to be taken to the Karapitiya Faculty

The body of business leader Mr. Dinesh Schaffter, exhumed this morning, will be taken to the Galle Karapitiya Faculty of Medicine for forensic medical research.
The preliminary work to be accomplished in this regard is underway, and forensic medical experts will carry out an investigation with regard to the body in Karapitiya.
This is to determine the cause of Mr Schaffter’s death.
The Colombo magistrate court, after a formal inquiry, made arrangements to appoint a panel of forensic medical experts for this purpose, and the body was exhumed today according to the request of these medical experts.
Meanwhile, the medical experts also observed the relevant location in the Borella cemetery area, where Mr. Schaffter was in his car before he died. The five-member expert committee appointed by the court comprises Prof. Asela Mendis, Prof. DCR Perera, Prof. DNP Fernando, Dr. Shiva Subramaniam, and Dr Rohan Fernando. The process was assisted by Medical experts, doctors, and lab technicians from Colombo and Karapitiya medical faculties.
Father of late Dinesh founding Chairman of Janashakthi Insurance Chandra Schaffter and close relatives of the family were also present at the occasion.
Although the police did not allow the journalists to cover this event this morning, in the face of the objections raised by the journalists, they were given the opportunity to report the relevant information from one location within the cemetery premises. It was later revealed that the reason why the police interfered in this way was that a certain television channel was planning to broadcast the entire episode of retrieving Shafter’s body live. Considering that it may infringe on moral values, all the media were retrained.
