It is reported that the government is paying close attention to handing over SriLankan Airlines to a Middle Eastern country to run.

SriLankan Airlines is one of the most fuel-intensive company and could be easily maintained if it is delivered to an oil-rich country.

It is also reported that SriLankan Airlines is running a loan of Rs. 315 billion.

Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation states that the restructuring of this institution should be completed this year so that it is no longer a burden to the people of this country.

The Minister further stated that the Board of Directors of SriLankan Airlines has been requested to submit to him within two weeks a detailed report on the various options and issues received regarding the restructuring.

Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva further stated that no employee will be allowed to be forcibly removed during this restructuring program.

It also said it had instructed SriLankan’s management to propose voluntary retirement so that they could receive an honorable Golden Shakehand. (colombotimes.lk)
